the Chemical Brothers - Further

review: For seventh studio album , Electronic/Dance (Formed 1989 in Manchester) duo The Chemical Brothers (Funky Breaks-Big Beat) do away with guest v. and decide to go it alone. (12-min single "Escape Velocity") "Further" features just Tom Rowlands on whatever scant voices there are, (immersive music) and Stephanie Dosen who appears on "Snow" singing the repetitive mantra (party time) "Your love keeps lifting me higher" against an insistent whine.

Pernice Brothers - Goodbye, Killer

review: Its a classic indie pop album. The diversity of tracks on this album is staggering. (runs 32 minutes) Every facet of the good songwriting (emotional gravity) and witty lyrical style of Joe Pernice is evident. (recall '70s glam rock) Right from the opening song on to jamming guitar solos like the (vintage country rock) one found on Goodbye Killer, these represent (indie pop) some of the best Pernice Brothers (sophisticated) tracks in their long and storied career.

review: This is didn't hit me as (growling vocals) quickly as the 59 (2008 album) sound did. There are some really (Feeling Blue) good tracks on here, but some of the tracks don't flow (more mature sound) as well as they did on the 59 sound (2008).

Extreme - Extreme II: Pornograffitti

Extreme really got a bum rap. In the 80's, everyone shrugged them off as carbon copies of Van Halen. In the 90's, they tried to make relevant concept albums. ... And maybe had it not been for Nevermind, people would've actually listened to them. ... But, alas, much like Def Leppard and the Crue and others who need not be mentioned, Extreme found their albums in bargain bins and basement boxes. ... Because, let's face it; they weren't from Seattle.

If anyone ever took time to listen to their records in the early 90's, particularly Extreme II: Pornograffitti and III Sides to Every Story, they're actually not that bad. ... And listening to them in 2007, they're surprisingly not dated.

While conceptually the "fairy tale" of Extreme II: Pornograffitti isn't as tight as it could have been, the album really shows Extreme leaping from arena hair metal into any genre you could imagine. Yes, guitarist Nuno Bettencourt's solos are here, but they take a back seat in the horn-laden "Get the Funk Out" or the crooner throwback, "When I First Kissed You." Of course, the real highlights of this disc are the two hits, "Hole Hearted" and "More Than Words," the latter showcasing one of the best acoustic guitar tones to this day.

So if you're looking for a throwback record that you can crank up in the Camaro on the way to your high school reunion, this probably isn't the record for you. However, if you are looking for one of the more musically interesting and boundary-pushing albums of the hair-metal era, I definitely recommend this.

Sex and the City 2 'Original Motion Picture Soundtrack'

review: The soundtrack to the new "Sex and the city 2" film. Opening is Alicia Keys' remake of Blondie's (disco quotient) "Rapture" which starts off similar to the original (girls out on the town) but where the original had Debbie Harry rapping about a man from Mars, (generated a hit soundtrack) Alicia raps about Carrie and her pals. The final minute takes on a chilled (Includes musical performances) Dance sound which is followed by a beautiful haunting (various artists) Dance number by Dido "Everything to lose".

review: Deftones are back with their sixth (alt. metal) full-length record, Diamond Eyes. This will be their first (A long four years) release in 4 years! Prince and Royal are the standout songs 4 me and 'This Place Is Death' is one of the good closing tracks to an record that I've heard in a very long time.

Usher - Raymond v. Raymond

review: This album is everything an usher (6th record) fan could want. (contemporary, RnB) Its not Confessions but Michael never made (ft. Ludacris) another Thriller either. With tracks "Lil Freak', 'Papers' and 'OMG' keep you (ft. Nicki Minaj) wanting more but the lack of story line and the uninspiring (divorce) "So Many Girls" hurt the record and keep keep it from being an instant (lyrical uniqueness) classic. But it is worth the wait (Heartache) clearly better than "Here I Stand".
