Tom Waits - Bad as Me Review

Really wonderful album. As so many albums this year, it's a grower (although it's a pretty impressive shower, too!) Don't let the fact that it is sonically similar to Waits' past albums dismay you. These songs are very deep, and reward looking underneath the satisfying surface. My favorites are "Hell Broke Luce" and "Pay Me", as good of a Bastard and Bawler as Waits has ever written. 10/10

Common - The Dreamer/The Believer Review

I like Common, and I have for a long time, that's why this cd was just "ok" for me. I like his flow, the beats are fine, but there's something missing for me. I think my expectations for his are so high, a conventional album just won't cut it from him anymore. It's very similar to Finding Forever for me. I did not like Universal Mind Control, but liked the idea of stepping outside of his box and trying something new. 5/10

Anthony Hamilton - Back to Love 2011 Review

I got into Anthony Hamilton with "Ain't Nobody Worryin'," which has made it difficult for follow ups, plus "Comin' From Where I'm From" to live up, but this is an excellent new set. Stronger than "The Point of It All" this record is loaded with medium to strong hooks draped in beautiful harmonies and textures with heartfelt lyrics delivered sincerely and soulfully. Lovin' it. I recommend the Deluxe version; the four additional tracks are as strong as the strongest material on the normal version. 8/10

Genre(s): Rap, R&B, Adult Contemporary R&B

Atlas Sound - Parallax Review

The new album of the Deerhunter front-man, Bradford Cox, known as Atlas Sound, differs from the music of his Rock band. As he describes it, this album is more lonely (you can especially see this in the track "Terra Incognita"), no load guitars are with him or drums setting the rhythm (but you will find a delicate percussion). However this is not a sad album: tracks such as "Mona Lisa" and "Te Amo" (which means "I love you" in Spanish) cheer up the atmosphere of this brilliant record. His voice is in most of the song the prominent sound, and really nice arrangements join him. "Parallax" turns out to be a record to relax and take your mind away for some minutes. 9/10

Genre(s): Pop/Rock, Alternative/Indie Rock, Alternative Pop/Rock

Apparat - The Devil's Walk Review

A really sad and emotional affair. Moments of engrossing instrumentation, but not quite enough to displace the droning and uninteresting sounds when it's off. 7/10

The Best Dressed Celebrities Of 2011

This year, we’ve encountered too many trendsetters and style icons to choose a favorite, so we’ve compiled a list of who we think are the best dressed celebrities of 2011:

Rihanna: The Wild Flower – Rihanna has been known to make the most extreme changes in her appearance, from her cropped bob to her long ruby red hair, and she has pulled it off gracefully. She helped set amazing trends like color blocking and showing off her petite waist. She has taught a lot of women to be daring, sexy and have fun with dressing yourself.

The Black Keys - El Camino Review

Gone are any and all killer guitar riffs which have always been the backbone of their music. instead we get an overproduced pop album of songs that with the changing of a few lyrics could pass for a katy perry record.

Five Finger Death Punch - American Capitalist Review

Five Finger Death Punch had a big mountain to climb after their last album. How do you improve on such a record? Easy. Heavier music, deeper lyrics, and ruthless aggression. This album is their best work yet. The title track, "American Capitalist" has the energy of a freight train going 900 miles an hour. The first single is the second track, "Under and Over It." is that head smashing jam that really has some meaning in it.

"The Pride" is the next track, and it is something new for FFDP. This is a list song. This really gives the album that "capitalist" feeling, because it list some of the most American things we have. "Coming Down" is one of those medium songs that FFDP has used before (See "The Bleeding"). "Menace" has that "White Knuckles" vibe to it, and still is very unique. "Generation Dead" kicks off with a bass line that will blow you away, as simple as it is, and will get you in a fighting mood. "Back For More" is a tune that just gets you up on your feet and pumps you up. I can see this song being played in NFL stadiums everywhere. "Remember Everything" is that slow song in the vein of "Far From Home." The lyrics are so deep and personal, you wonder what Ivan went through to write this. This is actually one of the stand-out songs, and looks to be a hit single for the band.

"Wicked Ways" is that "Meet The Monster" song that singles out celebrities for their...well, wicked ways. "If I Fall" is a song that just plain will whack you upside your head and give you that "going down swinging" mentality. The last song on the album is the one that will knock you on your ass and beat you senseless. "100 Ways To Hate" is their heaviest song on the album. It may be even heavier than "Ashes" and "War Is The Answer." There is so much anger and hate behind this song, and you will feel it. This is their best album yet, and you need to listen to it, even if you hate FFDP.

A Very She & Him Christmas - She & Him

"A Very She and Him Christmas" contains a timeless collection of Christmas classics that may add a bit of holiday cheer to one's listening pleasure. Indeed, the set of songs are perennial favorites that have been played and sung for decades by a countless number of performers. However, this is She and Him and any cover or rendition that they perform has a quality of their own but with subtle influences that are heard throughout their music that blend an uncanny resemblance to legendary artists of the past five decades, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and everything in between before that. With Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward as the creative duo that comprises She and Him, these holiday classics come to life once again.

All of the songs on the record are memorable and resonate a nostalgic flare. One never grows tired of hearing "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" or "Rocking' Around the Christmas Tree." And with the mention of the Beach Boys, listeners will find "Christmas Day" and "Little Saint Nick" a delight to hear.

It is always a pleasure to see a new generation of musical artists continuing to perform these holiday melodies especially during this day and age. And with the convenience of digital recordings that are released, it is always nice to know that vinyl and CD formats are still available. With the release of "A Very She and Him Christmas" one of the treats of having this CD is that it comes with a few extras that usually does not come with a digital download, brief liner notes that come in the form of a red envelope that looks like a Christmas card.

Rihanna - Talk That Talk Reviews

Based on 6 critics - Overal Score:  63/ 100

Enough with the chains and whips already. Ever since 2009's Rated R, the relentlessly dark, blood-on-your-hands record she released after being assaulted by her then boyfriend Chris Brown, Rihanna, 23, has equated falling for someone with feeling tortured. On last year's LOUD, she even tried to make pain seem empowering with the hard-pounding single ''S&M.'' But between ''Love the Way You Lie,'' a domestic-violence saga played out with Eminem, and ''Man Down,'' a ragga-tinged murder ballad, she just sounded like she needed a hug. 80/100 Read Full Review ew.com/ew/article/0,,20545856,00.html

Chris Cornell - Songbook Reviews

Based on 2 critics - Overal Score:  80/ 100

The fact that there is no cover of Michael Jackson's 'Billie Jean' is a surprise as this was always covered at Audioslave shows by a solo Cornell, but the collection here is more than enough to show Chris' amazing vocal talent stripped bare. A must for anyone who has or even hasn't heard of him. 90/100

Mac Miller - Blue Slide Park Reviews

Based on 5 critics - Overal Score:  57/ 100

It was cool when Miller was wearing snap-backs and sampling Nas, or shouting out Wu-Tang, or rapping over Lord Finesse beats – it sounded good. But Blue Slide Park seems to ditch this approach, while still wearing a snap-back. So now, by some, Mac Miller will likely be labeled by some as a young hipster who is doing Hip-Hop culture wrong. Actually, he’s a real fan of Hip-Hop with under-developed rhymes and mainstream-production problems. Bummer. 65/100 Read Full Review http://allhiphop.com/2011/11/08/album-review-mac-millers-blue-slide-park/

The Puppini Sisters - Hollywood Reviews

Based on 1 critics - Overal Score:  70/ 100

Described as "the Andrews Sisters on acid," Anglo-Italian vocal trio the Puppini Sisters' sound and style are so steeped in the golden era of the silver screen that it's surprising it's taken this long for the concept of their fourth album, Hollywood, to materialize. 70/100

Class Actress - Rapprocher Reviews

Based on 7 critics - Overal Score:  71/ 100

Critic Rating

AllMusic The most impressive thing on Class Actress' debut full-length album Rapprocher is the voice of Elizabeth Harper. Her rich, powerful, not to mention thoroughly enchanting vocals give the retro-synth pop sound a strength and impact that eludes most bands who chart a similar musical course.
90/100

Sputnikmusic Whatever the balance, it most definitely works. The track-list is consistent, the melodies catchy and layered, and the vocals lush and textured. Harper’s voice is silky and poised, adding a wash of warmth to the chilling robo-beats with her memorable and anthemic lines.

The Dreaming Featuring Members of Stabbing Westward, Murderdolls & Living Dead Lights, Premiere New Song Puppet Online

Los Angeles based The Dreaming, which features members of Stabbing Westward, Murderdolls & Living Dead Lights in their ranks, have premiered the title track “Puppet” from their new album online at http://www.noisecreep.com/2011/10/04/the-dreaming-puppet-song/.
The Dreaming’s new album Puppet is set for release on November 1st, 2011 through Epochal Artists Records/EMI.

"Universally 'Puppet' is about losing yourself in another person and allowing them to change you against your will into someone you don't even recognize anymore. It's about finding the strength to stand up and fight and take your life back. 'Puppet' is exorcising those demons for me and taking myself back," commented The Dreaming vocalist Christopher Hall. "Well first of all I think fans will be pleasantly surprised at how much 'Puppet' echoes back to the darker more electronic sounds of Stabbing Westward. It's darkly melodic and uncomfortably personal at times. I went for an epic soundtrack experience throughout the whole album so the listener feels like they are a part of the music. I want them to feel like these are their songs; their feelings, their pain."

Formed in 2005 by frontman Christopher Hall, the voice behind platinum rock outfit Stabbing Westward, The Dreaming assembles and all-star roster of musicians including Johnny Haro on drums (ex-Econoline Crush, Stabbing Westward), guitarist Eric Griffin (ex-Murderdolls/Wednesday 13), and bassist Martin Kelly (Living Dead Lights). Since their inception, The Dreaming have become road warriors relentlessly touring with the likes of Ill Nino, Godhead, RA, Trust Company, Flaw, Julien-K, Powerman 5000 and Wednesday 13.

BEN RECTOR DEBUTS AT #41 ON BILLBOARD TOP 200 & MORE!

Melding the best of pop and rock into skillfully crafted songs, Ben Rector's new album SOMETHING LIKE THIS, has been catching the attention of kids across the country with its infectious melodies, lively rhythms and blue-eyed piano-and-guitar soul. Self-released on September 13th, SOMETHING LIKE THIS, was iTunes #1 Singer Songwriter album 5 minutes after its official release, ultimately debuting at #41 on the Billboard Top 200. In support of SOMETHING LIKE THIS, Ben is currently on a five week North American tour that has already included sold out shows in Boston, Washington DC and Atlanta. Dates below.

Building his fan-base the old fashioned way - great songs and steady touring - this Nashville based artist has won over a legion of fans without the help from a label. Instead Ben has relied on his songwriting - a talent that made him the youngest winner of the John Lennon Songwriting contest - and a DIY effort to reach fans using social networks. Both have built Ben an incredible following, one that continually keeps his songs and albums on the top of the charts. Ben's last record INTO THE MORNING debuted at #5 on the iTunes pop chart, #10 on the overall chart, and #11 on Billboard's Heatseekers.

Check out the exuberant new song Let The Good Times Roll here: (approved to embed):

Along with early praise from ABC Music Lounge, Billboard, iTunes and others, Amazon will spotlight Ben in their "Artist On The Rise" program this October and November.

Are Rappers Getting Too Girly?

The Associated Press is declaring a new trend has hit the hip-hop scene: men wearing clothing intended for women. The article name checks rappers like Lil’ Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Diddy, 50 Cent and of course Mr. Kanye West as rap artists who have rocked jewelry (or pants in Wayne’s case, and a shirt in Kanye’s) intended for women.

Elaina Kiam is the owner of Lia Sophia, a jewelry line which has become very popular with many of hip-hop’s leading men. “When we were designing these really beautiful, sparkly necklaces, we thought more for top editors, maybe a celebrity movie star. We really weren’t thinking about hip-hop,” Kiam told the Associated Press.

Foreigner - Feels Like The First Time Reviews (Critic Reviews for Foreigner - Feels Like The First Time at Underground Music)

Based on 1 critics - Overal Score:  20/ 100

If only they had skipped the second disc..... which I refer to as "Feels like the Worst Time". The first CD of unplugged treatments of mostly classic foreigner songs is good...some of the arrangements different enough to even be called fresh and sadly the last track ...the Elvis tune "That's All Right" is so good it makes me wish they would have not retreaded Foreigner songs but attacked classic tunes. The third disc...the DVD is not the previous Sound Stage show but a more recent one...that said...its starting to get old...the same set the same licks on the previous Sound Stage, the Ryman Theatre and now this....but its a nice hour and a half. Now together these are worth the 12bucks it will cost you at Walmart. I should add... I like the new singer and band...I'm seeing them in a few weeks in concert.

Critic Reviews for 'George Benson - Guitar Man' at Underground Music

CD Cover Front
Based on 1 critics - Overal Score:  70/ 100

All Music - 70/100: Guitar Man, George Benson's second offering for Concord stands in contrast to 2009's Songs and Stories, though is not an about face. While the earlier album focused on Benson's proven, decades-long formula for pop and smooth jazz -- a group of of easy grooving tunes featuring his silky voice and shimmering guitar work -- this set focuses (primarily) on Benson as a contemporary jazz guitarist.

Thrice - Major/Minor Review and Yellow Belly Lyrics

I can't think of a reason why Thrice shouldn't be my favorite group in the world right now. Major/Minor leaves next to nothing to be desired in a modern rock record. (Alternative/Indie Rock) Everything that Thrice has done well in the past is present on this disc in droves upon droves. While not being overly progressive in the vein of 'The Alchemy Index' EP's, (atmospheric) and seeming slightly more filled out than the unabashed minimalism of 'Beggars', 'Major/Minor' succeeds at being both raw and sonic and captures the sound of a band that has reached its summit. Lyrically, Dustin Kensrue is without equal.

That's not to say he simply parrots SAT words one after the other but there's a careful, poetic quality (screamo) to his words that seems to extend far beyond his years. As if that weren't enough, (cathartic) Kensrue puts forth a vocal effort that is both singular and powerful. on 'Disarmed' he croons and moves softly through watery moments while on 'Blur' he manages to unleash some of the buzz-saw ferocity that helped put Thrice on the map years ago. While Kensrue is arguably the greatest (confrontational) front man in modern rock, 'Major/Minor' does not solely belong to him. Teppei Teranishi has come a long way from post-hardcore (aggressive) shredding and he drives that point home on gems like (rousing) 'Treading Paper' and 'Call it in the Air'. His playing is calculated & is less about mach 3 soloing than crafting ambient, mood inducing leads.

Annie Crane - Jump With A Child’s Heart Lyrics

Some come here prepared to fail, some with delusions of success
But no workmen's confidence.
They swarm the restaurants and with their swollen feet they over dramatize their beat.
After one year of bitchin’, they return to their home state with silken hands.
And for those who’ve been here for years working it and trying it,
Their hands show the rough, rugged course.
And in early fall when the sun hits the leaves just right,
Is when our tables house the rich Hamptonites.
Now pockets a little greener, our hearts a little younger,
We'll work through the slow and make bank with the flow.
I don’t mean to be crude and I don’t mean to be rude,
But if you put in the time she’ll give you wine.
We’ll keep up the heart until she shows us the next course to chart
And in truth we’ll jump with a child’s heart.
Ooooh, in truth we’ll jump with a child’s heart.
Ooooh, in truth we’ll jump with a child’s heart.
Ooooh, in truth we’ll jump with a child’s heart.
Ooooh, in truth we’ll jump with a child’s heart.
Ooooh, in truth we’ll jump with a child’s heart.

Selena Gomez & The Scene "Love You Like A Love Song" Lyrics

It's been said and done
Every beautiful thought's been already sung
And I guess right now here's another one
So your melody will play on and on, with the best of 'em
You are beautiful, like a dream come alive, incredible
A centerfold miracle, lyrical
You've saved my life again
And I want you to know baby

Jason Mraz - The World As I See It Lyrics, Jason Mraz - The World As I See It Lyrics and Listen Song

Jason Mraz - The World As I See It Lyrics

the world as i see it, is a remarkable place
a beautiful house in a forest, of stars in outer space.
from a birds eye view, i can see it has a well-rounded personality
from a birds eye view, i can see we are family.
it’s not hard for me to love you
hard for me to love you
no it’s not a difficult thing.
it’s not hard for me to love you
hard for me to love you because you are the world to me.
yeah the world as i see it, is a remarkable place every man makes a difference and every mothers child is a saint
from a birds eye view i can see, we are spiralling down in gravity
from a birds eye view i can see, you are just like me.
it’s not hard for me to love you hard for me to love you no it’s not a difficult thing. it’s not hard for me to love you hard for me to love you unconditionally.
no it’s not hard for me to love you hard for me to love you no it’s not a difficult thing. it’s not hard for me to love you hard for me to love you because you are the world to me.

That is not my blood on the bedroom floor
That is not the glass that I threw before

He gets his power from tide and wave
The grains of sand are my domain
His tempest surged and angry flesh

Pixie Lott - All About Tonight Video and Lyric

Lyrics
I bought a new pair of shoes
I got a new attitude, when I walk
'Cause I'm so over you
And it's all about tonight

I'm going out with the girls
Ready to show all the boys what I got
I'm letting go of the hurt
'Cause it's all about tonight

[Chorus]
Yeah the night is alive
You can feel the heartbeat
Let's just go with the flow
We've been working all week
Tomorrow doesn't matter
When you're moving your feet
It's all about tonight

Big Star with John Davis - Live Tribute at The Levitt Shell

We will also have some great Big Star bundles in the Ardent Music Store starting September 20th including signed copies of the Big Star with John Davis - Tribute to Alex Chilton 7" Vinyl EP with a Big Star Neon T-shirt!
Even in the city of Elvis and Beale Street, Big Star may be Memphis’ strangest musical story. The iconic band released three great records, all of which are on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, but Big Star’s success would be measured in critical acclaim and fan loyalty, not in sales. Featuring Alex Chilton, former lead singer for the million-selling Box Tops, singer/guitarist Chris Bell, bassist Andy Hummel and drummer Jody Stephens, Big Star released its ironically moniker debut, #1 Record, in 1972. Bell left for a solo career shortly after its release, but buoyed by the support of the national music community, including pioneering rock journalists Dave Marsh, Cameron Crowe, Bud Scoppa and Lester Bangs, Big Star, as a trio, released Radio City in 1974. Hummel left after its completion and Chilton and Stephens enlisted sidemen and Memphis producing legend Jim Dickinson to make Big Star Third/Sister Lovers, the band’s darkest album. Chilton and Stephens parted ways after its completion in early 1975.
