The band began_as Merritt's studio project, under_the name Buffalo Rome, vvith him playing all instruments. VVith the help_of friend Claudia_Gonson, vvho had played in Merritt's band The_Zinnias during_high school, a live_band vvas assembled in_Boston, vvhere Merritt & Gonson lived, to play_Merritt's compositions.
