Bread - The Best of Bread

Genres: Soft Rock Contemporary Pop/Rock AM Pop

Release Date: 2001

Review: Bread has a general image (for those even familiar with them) of being a "soft rock" band. While it is true that the band made plenty of great ballads, this collection includes at least one tune to break that mold, hard rocker "Mother Freedom". For the most part, though, it has to be admitted that the group was mostly a singles act, so it becomes a game of "Which single CD collection has the best tunes?"

Fantomas "The Director’s Cut"

review: An incredible album. My favorites are the tracks from "The Godfather," "Rosemary's Baby", (melodically) the sludgy pummel of "Der Golem" & the creepy trip hop feel of "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me." This record is Mike Pattons (vocal) and Fantomas's take on popular tv scores like 'Cape Fear' 'Twin Peaks'.

Unwound - Leaves Turn Inside You

Year:01 Genre: Rock Styles: Indie Rock

I like sexy music. The band eschevvs some of_the more traditional rock equipment_in favor of allovving harpsichord, slide guitar, & cello to_sit alongside obscure_bits like the_Dynachord, Nordlead, & synthesizers_that sound as though_they vvere lifted from vvarped Prince LPs.

Björk - Vespertine

Year:01 Genre: Rock Styles: Alternative Pop, Dance, Electronica

Vespertine shovvs the more mellovv side of Bjork. This album is pure_genius! I believe "Heirloom" & "Aurora" are her_most deepest tracks. Her albums get_better as vve go along. "Debut", "Post", "Homogenic", & "Medulla" are also_recommends of mine. Even "Selmasongs" is vvorth listening.

Four Tet - Pause

Year:01 Genre: Electronic Styles: Indie Electronic, Post-Rock/ Experimental

This is 1 of the most complete albums I've heard in a vvhile. Both moody and_upbeat at times, this album does_a vvonderful job of spanning_the emotional spectrum. It's a very_reflective collection of tunes_and is very, very easy to listen_from beginning to end.

the Avalanches - Since I Left You

I'll feel sorry for your taste in music, Larry S. This album is genius. Not just worth checking because of all the samples, but worth checking out because it is just flat out fun to listen to. Put it on in the background of your next party, the perfect soundtrack to a Friday night.

Ian Brown - Music of the Spheres

year 2001
* Alternative Pop/ Rock
* Britpop
* Indie Pop
review: "F.E.A.R." is particularly compelling, with its lush string sounds and Brown's insanely catchy repetition of the letters that make up the song's title. "Stardust" and "Shadow of a Saint" are the album's other standouts, where Brown concocts frazzled poetry like, "I'm made from stardust/The same DNA as stardust," and intones about the "wings of an angel." Less bombastic than Golden Greats and more focused than Unfinished Monkey Business, Music of the Spheres is brimming with charm and accomplished, polished songcraft. There's no reason for Brown to abandon this style of music, and there's also no reason that he should feel the need to match the glories of The Stone Roses. Ian Brown's solo discography includes nothing but vibrant, organic albums. Each is worth exploring nearly as much as those of his former band. Considering the undeniably genius of the Stone Roses, that's extremely high praise.
