Jeff Buckley Live Roskilde Festival

bio: Since he was the son of cult songwriter Tim Buckley, Jeff Buckley faced more expectations and pre-conceived notions than most singer/songwriters. Perhaps it wasn't surprising that Jeff Buckley's music was related to his father's by only the thinnest of margins. Buckley's voice was grand and sweeping, which fit with the mock-operatic grandeur of his Van Morrison-meets-Led Zeppelin music.

review: Available only by mail order, Rite² is one of Julian Cope's most consistent works. Instead of leaping to and fro between undeniably catchy synth-pop and fractured end-of-the-century prog, Cope sticks to the prog and comes out better for it. The full-length album contains only four tracks, and each charts the same cosmic blueprint of deep Kraut grooves and half-chanted, half-sung vocals. The third track, "D-c.o.m.p.o.s.e.r.," is 20 minutes of stark sequencer trance in the grand Tangerine Dream manner, and the closing "The Ringed Hills of Ver" restates the theme with help from guitar and organ.
